Real Estate and Divorce
Sequim Real Estate For Sale, Port Angeles Real Estate For Sale, Homes and Land, Lots for Sale
If you own real estate in Sequim or in Port AnSequim Real Estate For Sale, Port Angeles Real Estate For Sale, Homes and Land, Lots for Salegeles (or the state of Washington for that matter), and you are getting divorced, you are most likely going to be forced to sell your home and your other real estate, whether it is in Clallam County, or in another state.
Sometimes one spouse will keep the primary home, but then he or she must buy out the other. Most often there is not enough money in the kitty to do that, so the home must be sold, and the net proceeds divided according to the terms in the property settlement agreement incorporated into the divorce decree.
Tip: If you are in this unfortunate situation, be careful that you make wise decisions. In the Sequim & Port Angles Real Estate Blog, I wrote:
One should not make major decisions in a time of extremely high stress without good and trusted counsel. For goodness sakes, get some solid advice if you are or will be going through a divorce. Too many men or women get taken to the cleaners, and this means they often do not get half of the net proceeds from the sale of their home and other real estate. May I make a suggestion? Call me, and I'll listen and give you some free advice. I'm a Realtor, but I did practice law for 20 years, so I understand what happens (or ought to) with real estate in a divorce.
